A healthy diet can reduce the individual's risk of heart disease, diabetes, and even certain cancers. HWI's nutrition programs teach participants how to make positive dietary choices and practice food safety for short-term and long-term health. - Nutrition 1-on-1 – Onsite – In this two-session programs, participants will meet one-on-one with a Registered Dietitian or a certified Health Educator for roughly 20 minutes to receive a nutrition assessment and recommendations. Prior to the consult, participants will complete a three-day food log, which will be analyzed during the consult. The participant will then return for a 20-minute follow-up consultation four to six weeks later to chart their progress and discuss ways they can maintain a healthy diet.
- Nutrition 101®: Portions – Onsite – This 60-minute program module teaches participants the importance of healthy serving sizes for controlling their nutrition intake, along with some guidance on how to understand food labels and approved dietary guidelines.
- Nutrition 101®: On the Run – Onsite – Restaurants and fast food establishments pose unique challenges to a healthy diet. This 45-minute program module gives participants tips on how to overcome those challenges and make healthy choices when dining out.
- Nutrition 101®: Shopping – Onsite – With this 45-minute module, participants learn how to choose healthy meals and ingredients at the store, with tips on which zones of the store provide the best nutritional value in terms of the available products.
- Nutrition 101®: Apples to Zucchini – Onsite – This 45-minute, single-session program teaches participants practical ways to fit more fruits and vegetables into their daily diets. A certified Health Educator will challenge participants by testing their produce knowledge and provide tips to help them lower their produce costs. The Health Educator will also discuss a variety of cooking methods, and talk about the differences between traditional and organic produce. Each participant in Nutrition 101: Apples to Zucchini will come away from the program with practical advice to make fruits and vegetables fit into any budget or lifestyle.
- Nutrition 101®: Stop-by – Onsite – This module can be scheduled based on client needs, and allows participants to stop by for a brief discussion of several nutrition topics, including portion size and making healthy dietary choices when shopping or dining out. Nutrition 101: Stop-by is ideal for worksites that have limited employee schedule flexibility, i.e. a manufacturing or customer service environment.
i choose to live healthy®: nutrition – Online and DVD – The individual can take the guesswork out of healthy eating with the i choose to live healthy: nutrition program. Whether they want to lose weight or just prevent future health problems, this quick and easy to follow nutrition education course provides all the building blocks they need to create healthy meals. i choose to live healthy: nutrition compares real home-cooked and restaurant meals so that the individual can be confident that they are making the best decisions whether they’re eating at home or on the go. The participant will also learn how to read food labels, manage portion sizes, count calories and much more. Video extras include tips on healthy food choices and food preparation.
Produce Power® – Onsite and self-directed formats available – Most Americans fall short of eating the recommended amounts of fruits and vegetables each day. Eating fruits and vegetables has many health benefits including increased energy and reduced risk for chronic diseases, such as heart disease and diabetes. Produce Power was designed to help individuals boost their intake of healthy fruits and vegetables. During this six-week program participants will learn ways to fit more fruits and vegetables into their diet at home and on the go and will meet with a Certified Health Educator to talk about their progress.
To Protect and ServeSM – Self-directed – An estimated 76 million cases of food poisoning occur in the U.S. each year – that’s nearly a quarter of the population. Despite the prominence of media stories about food poisoning in restaurants and contaminated processed foods, most of these cases occur in the home and can be prevented. To Protect and Serve is designed to show participants how they can protect themselves and their families from food poisoning. During this six-week program, the participant will find out simple tips to reduce the risk of food poisoning at home and on the job and learn safe cooking, cleaning, and food storage habits that will help keep harmful bacteria at bay.
Pots & Plans – Self-directed – In this six-week program, participants will learn how to use meal planning to organize healthy meals that fit their lifestyle and budget. Participants will receive cost-saving tips to get the most from their food dollar, easy meal options, and simple techniques to construct nutritionally balanced meals.
